New Year’s Resolution

This past year I tried to widen my circle of people, and that wasn’t the best idea. This upcoming year I plan to stay away from the people that lie, or bring on too much drama. Every time there is drama I get dragged in even if I had nothing to do with the person. This semester has had more drama than an episode of Gossip Girl. One person that I thought was my friend ended up being the main cause of everything. After her and I not talking for awhile, she tries to come and act as if we never stopped being friends. Someone told me to hangout with the people that will raise your GPA, not lower it, so that is what I plan to do. Sticking with a small group of people can be good because by staying close to those people they can become friends for the rest of your life. Also I would like to try harder in all of my classes and sports. My goal is to get all A’s, and that will be very hard while playing sports. Spending a little extra time on homework, or studying harder will benefit me towards my goal. For sports I don’t want to just be average,I want to be the best I can be. To change that I’d like to start taking lessons, or spending more time practicing. Instead of spending about a month on my resolution I plan to go all year.

Aquarium Adventures

This Thanksgiving my family went to Gatlinburg, Tennessee. On Black Friday instead of going shopping, we decided to go to Ripley’s Aquarium. It’s been about 5 years since I’ve last been. In the entrance there was a huge circular aquarium with bright colored fish. When continuing on, there was a open pool space that was filled with sharks, and a sea turtle that actually came to see us. At the aquarium they had the tunnels to where you can see under the big pool. The sharks, fish, and stingrays were swimming all around. While going through the tunnel a giant sword fish swam by, and at that same moment, my uncle decided to scare me. I screamed so loud that people I didn’t even know started to laugh. Next we got to see a baby penguin, and more jumping and swimming around in the water. Me and my little cousin got to pet a stingray,as Santa in a snorkeling suit was feeding the stingrays. As we were petting them, one got a little too happy and decided to splash us. After seeing the aquarium double in size since I’ve last been is amazing. I know that I want to go back, and spend more time there. Not only is Ripley’s Aquarium a great place to visit, so is Gatlinburg. It’s filled with family fun activities and is a great place to relax.

Calm is the Virtue of the Strong

If you have a close group of friends, you feel like you could trust them. When they start to dig around in your private life and spread rumors that is a hint to not trust them anymore. When people start to do this don’t react to it. They want a rise out of you, but show them that you’re stronger than anything. It’s okay to shed a tear or two, but don’t let them see you break down completely. Also don’t get mad because that could just get you into more trouble. Just remember that the calm is the virtue of the strong. If you live by this then it will make those “friends” really upset because you’re stronger than what they thought. Another thing to remember is that those people want to see you fall, so that means they must be jealous of you. Be happy about that because that means you are a threat to them. Finally remember to smile, it will make you feel better and at the same time drive those people crazy.

Not the Best Journey

People normally go to the doctor for check-ups or when they’re sick. I have been going at least once a week trying to figure out what is wrong with my stomach. The past three months I’ve been dealing with my stomach hurting, and not being able to eat. People would normally think that it’s due to stress since school and sports have started up again, but it’s not. Stress hasn’t stopped me before from eating because I’m one of those kids who love to eat. We did testing for gallbladder: came back normal, blood work: normal, and did various other tests, which came back normal. I’m to the point where I’m sick of the medicine,  poking, and needles. Having the doctor tell me that my problem is that I’m not active enough is making me mad, especially when I play three sports. Missing school because of the tests, then missing more because I don’t feel well due to the testing can frustrate someone who cares about their grades. It’s also hard to perform my best in sports when I can’t eat and don’t feel well. Hopefully they’ll figure everything out and this will end soon.

Flip-flop and Sweater Weather

It’s that time of the year where it is in between seasons. People aren’t quite as ready to put away their sandals, but are ready for the sweaters. With the ever changing weather in Indiana you don’t know if to pack away summer clothes, or keep them out. The best thing to do is forget about the weather and what trends to go with, compromise and keep the sandals but throw on a sweater or jacket. This weather is the best because you can cuddle around a fire at night and still play outside during the day with being comfortable. If it’s a rainy day stay in sweats or PJ’s, and curl up with a good book and a cup of coffee. With this kind of weather everyone is in a good mood because it’s not too hot or too cold. The leaves are changing which makes everything colorful and beautiful. Also when the weather is changing it’s a sign that football is on it’s way! Enjoy the great weather and do what you love, if it’s staying inside to read, run, play golf, or being around a fire with friends, just have fun.

Inspiration

Everyone has someone that they look up to. Most of the time it’s your mom, dad, or someone who is really famous. Mine is an athlete that isn’t like any other. Ashley Fiolek is a two time WMA ( Women’s Motocross Association) champion. Ashley had to work harder than anyone to be a champion because since birth she has been deaf. In a sport that depends on your hearing she had to learn everything differently and had a challenge compared to the other girls. With her hard work she dethroned Jessica Patterson who was the standing 5 time champion. Ashley also became the youngest WMA champion, and she stood alone to take women’s motocross racing in the U.S. to the next level. Ashley had to work harder than anyone to get what she wanted, and let nothing stop her. Next time I feel like I can’t do anything because of a headache or not feeling well, I’ll think of Ashley, and how she let nothing stop her.

Lady Titans Golf

Golf at Taylor High School isn’t one of the popular sports, well for the girls anyway. A couple years ago, the sport was struggling to have enough players to make a team. When there were enough golfers, the girls were not very experienced. As the years went on, and Mr. Palmer took over the program,  girls seemed more interested in golf and started to come out for the team. This year we have a great group of girls; there are two new additions to the team from last year. Over the summer the girls tried to improve their game, if it was going to the range, playing everyday, or taking lessons. With all the extra practice and effort it shows during the season. At the Webo invite the team shot a 408, which was the best score in 3 years! Also, on that day Daysi Jarvis shot an 83 which is her best 18 hole score. Just last night the team shot a 193, which was the best 9 hole score in three years. That just goes to show, when you practice and have a passion for it, something good will come out of it. I hope the golf girls and I keep progressing through the years.

New Lunch

At Taylor High School the schedule has been adjusted to remove homeroom and extend lunch, so that all students are able to eat one lunch. The reason for changing the schedule is that we could have longer class periods and clubs have time to meet without taking away time from the class room. This may sound great because a longer lunch period means we can eat with all our friends and there’s a longer time period away from the classroom. It’s a great plan, but not greatly executed. All the students are herded like animals rushing to the water hole. The shorter people, like me, are pushed around and cut in front of. When we finally get our food, it’s hard to find a table. There are just people everywhere! People getting out of their chairs not looking behind them while we try to dodge the chair without spilling our food. Think it’s great to sit with all of your friends? Try again. If we’re not hungry and not eating, we can’t be in the lunch room. As soon as we are done eating we have to leave so someone else can have the seat. That may not bother some people, but we have to stand outside the lunch room for about 20 minutes. The new lunch schedule is bad now, and it needs a lot of work. It’s only the first few weeks of school, and we have time for improvement. Let’s just hope that the problems are addressed and it becomes a little more organized.
